The Department of Immigration and Emigration of Sri Lanka has announced that all foreign nationals visiting Sri Lanka for tourism or business must now obtain an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before arriving in the country. This new regulation takes effect from October 15, and all travellers need to make sure their ETA applications are completed, submitted, and approved before departure, as ‘on-arrival’ options will be discontinued.
The ETA can be conveniently obtained online through the official government website: eta.gov.lk.
Fee Exemptions for Selected Countries
While all travellers must apply for an ETA, passport holders from the following countries are exempt from paying the visa fee:
- China
- India
- Indonesia
- Japan
- Malaysia
- Maldives
- Russia
- Seychelles
- Singapore
- Thailand
Visitors from all other countries are required to pay the stipulated fee as per the Department’s guidelines.
